The Christmas Eve Déjà vu

On a Christmas Eve in the Mid 80’s, during the day I was driving around town for some last-minute shopping, and my car ran out of gas. It was Christmas Eve. Yes, it was a dumb mistake…trying to run last minute errands without fueling up first…pushing my car to the limit. Since this was pre-cell phone time, when my car stalled by the side of the road, I had to walk to get help. What a stressful day, on what should have been a fun/relaxing evening with family.

But that is not the end to this entry. Because, exactly one year later…. yes, on Christmas Eve AGAIN….. I was out making last minute purchases for the holiday and ran out of Gas AGAIN.

How many times does an average person run out of gas in their lifetime? But two years in a row? On the same day?? Christmas Eve?? How does this happen? I know and understand it was caused by the fact that I did not pay attention to my gas gauge, but I still believe it is very unusual.

Put simply, the second time it happened it was surreal. Twilight Zone stuff…or at the very least, it was a Déjà vu moment.

Never happened before and has never happened since.
